President's Message

Dear CSU Alumni,
As the newly elected president of the Chicago Teachers College/Chicago State University (CTC/CSU) Alumni Association, I am excited about working with alumni, students, faculty and staff, donors and community leaders to move CSU forward.

This is an important time in CSU’s history. In a few months, the university will celebrate its 150th anniversary along with the College of Education. How many universities can boast that they have a college on their campus that is 150 years old?  Not many. Through the work of Cook County Normal, Chicago Normal School, Chicago Teachers College, Chicago State College and Chicago State University, our beloved university has over 38,000 living alumni and has touched the lives of millions through the work of all its colleges.

As president, my vision is for the CTC/CSU Alumni Association to become one of the most desirable alumni associations in the world and to take its rightful place among the elite of these associations. But there is only one way to accomplish this and for all the stakeholders to reap the benefits, and that is for each and every CSU alumnus/a to become actively involved in our various activities. Only then will we experience the full impact of alumni support, and only then will we achieve the real power of alumni networking.

I am working diligently with board members to continue past initiatives while launching new initiatives  that will enable us to grow our global alumni network. As president, my goal is to create and enhance programs and events that will protect the CSU heritage, facilitate dialogue and provide support to alumni. For instance, there is a renewed focus on creating a speaker forum that provides alumni and students with information to enhance their personal and professional journeys. We also are committed to creating programming between alumni and students that is memorable and forever lasting. So please stay tuned.

We too recognize the university is experiencing some financial and operational challenges. These challenges will require that everyone step up and support CSU. As alumni, we have to remember that we are examples of CSU’s achievements, as well as guardians of its legacy. As an alumna of this great institution, I am indeed proud of CSU’s accomplishments, and, more importantly, I am committed to its future success. I am in agreement with outgoing President Reverend Fannie D. McCullough that now is the time we must support CSU with our time, talent and treasure. In Fannie’s recent letter, she encouraged all alumni to give back to CSU. This is the time for action. If you have yet to support CSU with a gift, please do so today.

On behalf of the CTC/CSU Alumni Association, I express my gratitude to our alumni for being CSU's partners and for building our proud legacy, and I thank you for your participation in the CTC/CSU Alumni Association.
