TRANSFER STUDENTS

You are considered a transfer student if you have:

Received a high school diploma or have a high school equivalent (GED)

Earned  a minimum of 24 semester or 36 quarter hours from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale  

Individuals with less than 24 semester or 36 quarter hours must also meet freshman admission requirements and have a minimum cumulative college grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.    

Application Requirements

Transfer Students

To be eligible for dual enrollment, you must:

  • Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

  • Rank in the upper 25% of your class (if rank is provided).

  • Have approval from your high school counselor or principal attesting to your preparedness for rigorous college-level coursework.


To apply
for dual enrollment:

  • Complete and submit the Dual Enrollment Application.

  • Submit high school transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

  • Submit approval letter from your high school counselor or principal to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Before starting
the application process, be sure to:

 

  • Check dates and deadlines so you stay on track with the application process.

  • Check to see whether your AP, IB, or college credits will transfer to Chicago State University.

  • Request that your final official high school transcript showing your graduation date (if you have less than 24 hours of college credit) and official transcripts of any college coursework from any colleges and/or universities you attended be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

  • Have a valid credit or debit Card or your bank information available for the application fee.

Transfer Admission Requirements

To apply as a transfer student, you must:

  • Complete and submit the CSU Online Application.

  • Submit the $25 non-refundable application fee. (Fee waivers are not accepted for transfer students.)

  • Submit official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions from all colleges and universities attended.  Note: If you have less than 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, you will also need to submit an official high school transcript with your graduation date included.

  • Request that your official ACT or SAT scores be sent directly to Chicago State University from the College Board and/or ACT - only if applying with less than 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours of earned college credit.  

If you have other types of credit earned, such as:

Advanced Placement (AP) - Have the College Board send your scores directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) - Send your scores directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Explore Financial Aid Options

Chicago State University (CSU) offers multiple forms of financial aid including scholarships, grants, and loans. You are automatically considered for several scholarships simply by applying to CSU.

  • Submit your FAFSA early. We suggest that you complete and submit your FAFSA application by November 15th.

  • Research and apply for private scholarships and other opportunities early.

Clery Act

The Clery Act is a consumer-protection law aiming to provide transparency around campus crime policy and statistics. The university provides this information to inform students, parents, potential students, employees, and potential employees of the crimes that are occurring on and around campus.

Second Bachelors Degree
To be considered a Second Bachelor Degree candidate, all post-secondary coursework must be completed at a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and must submit the following requirements:
  • Submit the CSU Online Application.

  • Submit the $25 non-refundable Application Fee.

  • Submit the official college transcript from each college or university attended.

Note:  Candidates for a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for MAP and Pell Awards.  Students typically finance the costs of a second bachelor’s degree through student loans (if eligible), cash payments, or through payment plans approved by the Office of the Bursar.
