Note regarding punctuality: To allow for conflict-free presentations, paper sessions start and end promptly on the times indicated, below. Audience should be seated when a session starts. To allow participants to enjoy the paper presentations and discussions that follow each presentation, please try to keep interruptions by entering a room late to a minimum. In addition to their traditional roles as introducers of speakers and catalysts of discussion, and overall gadflies of "common sense," chairs of sessions must also be brutal to be kind by starting and ending sessions mercilessly on time. Welcome to the 2003 Annual Conference of the Midwest Philosophy of Education Society!

Registration: 8 a.m. ED 206 (Education Building)

Fees

  • MPES Conference Participants Annual membership: $65 (Sat. to 1 pm.)
  • Student Registration Fee: $10
  • To avail of the significantly lower conference registration fee, students must present a valid ID at the time of registration; or a current class registration list accompanied with another photo ID, such as, drivers license.
  • Student registration fee ($10) does not include membership to the Society.

    CPDU Participants Registration Fee : $100 one day; $120 both days (Fri. 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. & Sat. 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.)

    Number of available CPDUs on: (1) Friday, Nov. 14= Six CPDUs; (2) Saturday Nov. 15= Seven CPDUs; (3) Both days=Thirteen CPDUs

    Fee for one or both days includes a one-year membership to the Society. Members are eligible to vote during business meetings; run for office in the Society; and receive a free copy of the latest MPES Proceedings.

    Certificate of Completion: CPDU participants receive Certificates of Completion specifying amount of time they participated in conference activities.

Registration/attendance fees required: To be able to attend conference, registration or membership fees, or both, are required of ALL conference participants, including presenters. Please see explanation, above, regarding relevant fees.

Benefits of Membership ($65/year): Membership includes voting privileges during Business Meeting; opportunity to run for MPES office;  present papers or participate at annual conferences; one free copy of the MPES Proceedings; and membership ID card.

MPES Graduate Student Competition Awards:

The Society offers two awards annually to doctoral students in philosophy of education/educational foundations who present papers at the annual MPES conference. They are:

  • Michael Oliker Doctoral Student Competition Award (starting year: 2003): $100.00

  • MPES Graduate Student Competition Award (starting year: 1989): $100.00

If there are more than two graduate students presenting papers in any one year, MPES Program Committee recommends two graduate student candidates for the awards from among those presenting papers.
