To allow participants to enjoy the paper presentations and discussions that follow each presentation, please try to keep interruptions by entering a room late to a minimum. In addition to their traditional roles as introducers of speakers and catalysts of discussion, and overall gadflies of "common sense," chairs of sessions must also be brutal to be kind by starting and ending sessions mercilessly on time. Fees

  • MPES Conference Registration (includes one year membership and MPES Proceedings): $65.
  • Student Registration with valid student ID: $10.
  • To avail of the significantly lower conference registration fee, students must present a valid ID at the time of registration.
  • Student registration fee ($10) does not include membership to the Society.
  • Student volunteers on the Volunteer List have their student registartion fee waived.
  • Session chairs who will ONLY chair a session but not attend other sessions or present papers have their fee waived, otherwise must register.
  • Dinner and Presidential Address, Friday, Nov. 12, Hilton Hotel, 7:15 p.m.: $41 payable to MPES.

Registration/attendance fees required: To be able to attend conference, registration or membership fees, or both, are required of ALL conference participants, including presenters. Please see explanation, above, regarding relevant fees.

Benefits of Membership ($65/year): Membership includes voting privileges during Business Meeting; opportunity to run for MPES office;  present papers or participate at annual conferences; one free copy of the MPES Proceedings.

MPES Graduate Student Competition Awards:

The Society offers two awards annually to doctoral students in philosophy of education/educational foundations who present papers at the annual MPES conference. They are:

  • Michael Oliker Doctoral Student Competition Award (starting year: 2003): $100.00

  • MPES Graduate Student Competition Award (starting year: 1989): $100.00

If there are more than two graduate students presenting papers in any one year, MPES Program Committee recommends two graduate student candidates for the awards from among those presenting papers.


Hotel Accommodations:

Hilton Hotel, 9333 South Cicero Avenue (corner of 94th Avenue and Cicero, about 8 to 10 minutes driving distance from Chicago State University), Oak Lawn, Illinois. The Hilton has free bus shuttle from Midway Airport. How to get to Hilton from CSU: Take 95th Street west to Hilton Hotel, on the north (right hand) side of 95th street. To return to CSU from Hilton, simply reverse the process. Both the Hilton and CSU are located on or near the same street (=95th street). Cost of room is 115.00 per night (discounted), plus tax.
