Program Accreditation

Chicago State University is a fully accredited, public, urban commuter and residence institution. Originally founded in 1867 as an experimental teacher training school, the institution has evolved into a multipurpose university committed to meeting the needs of the urban community.

The College of Education and the Department of Special Education, Early Childhood-Primary and Bilingual Education are approved and accredited by:

  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)/North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
  • Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Accreditation includes full recognition of Bilingual Programs by Association of Childhood Education International (ACEI) for the Bilingual Program and full recognition of Early Childhood-Primary Programs by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
